Riehlife Poem of the Day: New song lyric by Erwin A. Thompson “Somebody Else’s Woman”
My father while going through 100s of hours of recorded music tapes (one of his projects this winter is re-recording), he got fed up with all the “cheating” songs. He thought he would put in his version. He stayed up until Midnight writing it and this note that goes along with it. —JGR
Pop says: Years ago my aunts used to say that “All the interesting men are married.” And then someone said “That is what makes them nice. Some good woman has influenced them.”
That is what I find, in reverse. All of the interesting women are married or permanantly attached. But there are at least three women in my life (besides my younger daughter Janet) that are really concerned with me, and act like it.
Somebody said that the second year after a death would be the hardest. I hope they don’t get any worse. Julia, my older daughter, gone almost four years now, sang on one of the tapes I listened to. When I heard her voice on the tape, I just sat and cried.
My music and my writing are what keep me going.
If you want to sing this new song SOMEBODY ELSE’S WOMAN, the melody of “I Overlooked An Orchid (while searching for a rose)” works perfectly. [Note: If you go to Rhapsody, you can download “I Overlooked an Orchid” if you don’t know the tune.]

SOMEBODY ELSE’S WOMAN
by Erwin A. Thompson
1
SHE UNDERSTANDS MY FEELINGS
THE HEARTACHE AND THE LOSS.
SHE DOES EVERYTHING SHE KNOWS
TO MAKE ME SMILE.
YOU’LL ALWAYS FIND MORE “GIVE” THAN TAKE
IN EVERYTHING SHE DOES.
READY TO “GO THE SECOND MILE.”
(CHORUS)
BUT SHE’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S WOMAN,
TO ME SHE’S JUST A FRIEND
WHO LIGHTENS UP MY LIFE
FROM DAY TO DAY.
SHE’S GOT A MAN TO SHARE HER LIFE
THAT SUITS HER TO A “T”.
SHE LOVES HIM IN THAT SPECIAL WAY
2
I CAN DREAM FOR JUST A MOMENT
THAT THE WORLD IS JUST FOR TWO,
AND WE’LL FIND A LITTLE ISLAND
IN THE SKY.
AND WE’LL SHARE THE FRIENDSHIP
THAT WE’VE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS
AND WE’LL SIT AND WATCH THE WORLD GO BY.

I Overlooked An Orchid (while Searching For A Rose)
by Carl Smith
1
The orchid is a flower that blooms so tenderly
To thrill the fairest lady of the land
If placed beside a blushing rose the rose cannot compare
But how was such as I to understand
I overlooked an orchid while searching for a rose
The orchid that I overlooked was you
The rose that I was searching for has proved to be untrue
The orchid now I find my dear was you
2
The rose has lost its color but the orchid is the same
And I’m alone to face these lonely years
I didn’t see the orchid I was looking for a rose
And now I pay the price with bitter tears
Cause I overlooked an orchid…
